What to Expect: The trail is easily walkable, minding a few sandy sections with roots protruding from the ground. Some areas will be muddy or even flooded, so water proof boots are recommended. If the river is flooded over, as it has been in the past, I will advise before hand of the specific conditions to allow for last minute modifications to the recommended gear. If the river is flooded over as it was in 2022, I would gladly guide us into the water for some really nice unique imagery.

Itinerary: We will meet at the trail head at least 30 minutes prior to sunrise. We will set out on the trail no later than 15 minutes before sunrise in order to arrive at the location I have planned to capture the early morning colors in the sky. If you happen to be running late, you will still have an opportunity to catch up to us, but in order to capitalize on the morning light the group will leave strictly on time. Once we shoot the sunrise composition we will continue to hike to other areas and compose various shots using the early morning light. The furthest point along the trail depends on the conditions and water levels of the river, but we will get right up to the bank of the river (or even in the river) before we take an alternate trail back. I’ve hiked this area many times and have several locations in mind for compositions that can be shot in any light or weather. Overall, there will be abundant opportunities for making compositions, as well as allowing time for getting creative. No one will come away with the exact same shot, rather everyone will come away with unique images that suit each individual’s style.

What’s Included: The duration will be approximately 3 hours from the start of our hike until we arrive back to our cars. You will be guided through every step of the photographic process from camera settings, composition, and even advanced techniques when applicable. For beginners, I have a very helpful blog that I strongly encourage you to dive into before embarking on this journey as you will be able to make the most out of the time on the trail. I will guide you to key compositions that I have shot in the past. Shooting in this kind of environment has many challenges, so I will share with you my many mistakes and lessons learned. We will have the flexibility to spread out and engage various scenes independently instead of grouping together on a single composition. This allows for each individual to get into a creative flow with the peace of mind of having an instructor nearby to help when needed.

Additionally, I have decided that because post-processing is such a key aspect of modern photography that I will provide an hour of post-processing consultation at no additional cost. This will be scheduled at a later date (recommended 1 - 2 weeks after the workshop). You will see the workflow I go through in editing the shots taken from that workshop. This will be a one-time offering per workshop. All together the hike plus the post-processing session will come out to around 4 hours.
